Flooring Renovations in the Greater Toronto Area
Engineered laminate flooring may not have been around as long as hardwood or stone floors, but it has a lot to offer to the world of flooring. Made with a mix of synthetic and natural, recyled materials, laminate flooring is covered with an attractive, decorative coating. Compared to other floor materials, laminate is a much more affordable and versatile option, allowing home owners to be creative with their floor design without breaking the bank.
At Advanced Finished Basements, our laminate flooring resembles genuine wood, so much so that it could be confused for real hardwood floor. If you want the look of wood for the price of laminate, the choice is simple. Laminate flooring is also more durable than other floor options, and is very easy to install. Whereas real wood can fade from UV rays, laminate flooring is unaffected by the sun and will never fade or change colors. Hardwood floors can also be scratched easier than engineered laminate, we supply and install very high quality engineered laminate that is virtually scratch resistant. This added benefit translates to dollars saved and maintenance time spared.
Speaking of maintenance, installing laminate flooring is a clean, stress-free process. No glue, staples or nails are required to lay laminate down on any surface in your home. Known as “floating floors”, laminate flooring can occasionally be installed a top existing flooring (not carpet), which means the job will be less invasive and more time-efficient.

Tile and Natural Stone Flooring
Whether your project is a tile back splash, kitchen floor, or a new shower we have many styles for you to choose from. AFB can help you complete your project on time and with the perfect look. Ceramic tiles and Natural Stone are some of the most diverse and popular products on the market today. The choices in tile can be over whelming and their applications are only limited by your imagination. Our design experts will work with you to choose the best products to compliment any design style you may have in mind.
From pyramids, cathedrals, and palaces of old right up to today’s most elegant edifices, natural stone has been chosen for beautiful and practical surfaces. But times are changing. New technologies are producing porcelain tiles that look like natural stone, wear as well as stone, and are virtually maintenance free. Which is right for you? You can drop anything , even battery acid on porcelain and you’re OK, while stone floors need special sealers so they don’t absorb liquids or colors. And the latest design options in porcelain seem endless, with tiles that look like wood, leather, fabric, crocodile skin, terra cotta, hammered copper, gold, and steel. Some porcelains have metallic appeal, while others even resemble marble with goldleaf detailing — fabrications that dazzle the imagination.
Keeping Up with Maintenance
While product selection and cost are of prime importance when choosing between tile and stone, also consider maintenance. Across the board, designers and suppliers give porcelain tile top rating, calling it durable and maintenance free. Porcelain is a sister to ceramic tile, but is made of clay that is more highly refined, making it denser, more rugged, and what some experts believe to be better suited to flooring.
Natural stone requires periodic professional polishing and regular cleaning with a neutral, non-chemical soap. Just because stone is a hard, natural material doesn’t mean it’s immune to cleaning risks. Like porcelain, you should avoid cleaning most natural stone with any solution that contains vinegar or other acid unless it’s formulated precisely for your type of flooring. Instead, wipe up spills immediately and clean with a pH balanced cleanser or a mild liquid dish washing detergent and warm water. Rinse several times so the cleaning solution doesn’t damage the grout.
